New Year, New Beginning
Most people love the new year. There is the excitement around the opportunity to start a new diet, start a new job, start a new relationship. Whatever it is and whatever it may be, the new year symbolizes a new opportunity and a new beginning.
The prophet Jeremiah reminded us of the power of newness. Lamentations 3:22-23 reads as follows,
Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. 23 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
Jeremiah knew that it was only because of God's great love and compassion for us, that we are able to experience God's new compassion every day. He writes that God's compassion never fails and is new EVERY morning. I remember a commercial from Dunkin Donuts where the baker would rise early in the morning and say, "It's time to make the donuts." He had to prepare fresh donuts everyday for the customers. Well, I submit to you, that God does the same for us. Each morning God ensures we have fresh batch of grace and mercy. God has already prepared our daily bread and gives us the reassurance that what we need, God has already provided.
I want to encourage you as you enter this new year to trust God to take care of you. Trust God to see you through the difficult and easy times in your life. Trust God with the hard and the not so hard challenges you may experience. This is a new year and a new season. Allow God to do a new thing in you and make this your best year yet!
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. 19 See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.
Feel free to join us in worship on Sundays at 8:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. I hope to see you soon.
